FARMER Post 2

Throughout this book he tells a story of a city kid transforming himself into a farmer. He becomes to realize by the end of his book that the land is his to keep and it is his goal to maintain this land. Hopefully, passing it along to someone with the same dedication, but in better shape than it was in before. This sense of accomplishment, I believe was realized when one of his friends parents came to the farm to check it out. These people owned large amount of cows and grew crops. The realization happened when the man asked him his opinion about something to do with the calf. It is very clear that by the end of the book it seems like he knows what he is doing because in the beginning of the book he knew nothing at all about becoming a farmer. Even in his stories about what he did transformed and became more detailed toward the end of the book. By the end of the book I noticed that he gave detailed accounts of what he did to, for example, kill and butcher a pig. Compared early on in...

Job Description of a Sailing Coach

Image
A Day in a Life of a Sailing Coach One of my favorite hobbies and competitive sports is sailing. Most people have an image of a large sail boat with people drinking and wearing boat shoes, when they think sailing. Even though I like to casually sail occasionally. I especially love to race dinghies (small sailboats) competitively. I enjoy sailing so much that I coached at my yacht club for a year and a half. A sailing coach is exactly what it sounds like, a person who teaches sailing. Sailing is a very unique sport to get into and to learn because of the limited access to equipment and coaches a person might not have. At the yacht club where I coached, we provide everything a kid would need to learn to sail. I coached mainly beginner sailors who had almost no experience or not at all. Our goal as coaches, each week, was to have each kid driving and be comfortable in the boat by the end of the week. This is no easy task. There are three descriptions that he...

FARMER post 1

In the first part of this book, he spends his time talking about the process of him unintentionally becoming a farmer. Throughout this journey he had to face different obstacles which he was not properly prepared for. From the first attempts at bee keeping to dealing with a bloated cow, somehow, he could manage his way through them. I noticed that there is a common theme that reading books is the main way he learns to overcome these obstacles or rarely asking advice from people who might have more knowledge than him. This way of learning is one way to find the knowledge needed to grow a thriving profitable farm. Except at this point in the book he has not been that profitable in his venture and throughout the book he is slowly realizing that his hobby/dream is becoming more of a reality. I noticed that he mentioned that he loved to pass with reading while he was a child, which has influenced him to the point he is at in his life. The actions that he has done through the time he has...

Paulsen_Assignment_1

I am from the Richmond district in San Francisco, which is close to the Presideo and the Golden Gate bridge. I personally do not know where I am going yet, but I am hoping to one day start a business and enjoy what I do. How I am going to get there is a hard question because I honestly do not have any idea how I will, but I hope my first step is to graduate from USC. My parents are opposites of each other and I think that I am like both of them in some ways or the other. Except I feel like I am more similar to my dad because he is into the same hobby/sport that I am in to and that we are both pretty optimistic. On the other hand my mom sometimes isn't as optimistic as I am. I had a expectation of going to college before college and that I wanted to go to USC. Also, my family approves of me going to college, but deep down, if I could, I would be sailing instead of going to college. I wish I could be sailing around the world racing and competing in major events or just cruising...
