Chuck Collins is a great about that looks at the inequality debate between the
rich and poor from the perspective of the one percent. Chuck is a part of the
one percent and describes his journey through his life and his struggle with dealing
with the privileges that he received from birth. He did not agree with having
enough money to not work for the rest of his life and he decided to donate a
majority of his wealth. He wanted to live his life to his value and not to the
fact that he is very privilege and wealthy. He utilizes his privilege and
wealth to start a non-profit that would help the people help fight against
inequality. Except most people want this fight to be violent and out of rage
towards the wealthy, but he believes that through his organization they can
help peacefully facilitate the debate. He helps with this by utilizing his
perspective from both sides.
This book has helped with my perspective on how each side perceives
the other. It is also interesting to read about a person who gave up everything
to experience what it would be like to be a part of most of the population. I
like how he recognizes the privilege he has by being a white male, who grew up
with extreme wealth. For someone to give up so much to give to others is insane
to me. I appreciate that he goes out of his way to understand people that do
not have the background he has and helps them.
